Are You Setting Goals Regularly?
Want to reach your goals in record time? If so, you need to utilise a few key techniques that will help you do just that.
Some people completely neglect to set goals entirely, which is the first step that must happen. But as you do, it’s also vital that you set goals properly.
Even if you already have some, it’s worth your effort to have a look over them and make sure that they’re set up correctly.
Let’s go over some of the key tips that you should know.
Be Smart With Your Timeline
First, it’s important that you be smart with your timeline. When do you want to achieve this goal?
Make sure that you write it down so that there is no procrastinating with this goal.
But at the same time, also be sure that you are not making that timeline too tight.
Remember that ‘life’ will always throw curve balls at you and when it does, you may fall off the bandwagon for a day or two.
You need this leeway in there so that if one thing goes wrong, you don’t get discouraged. This said, don’t leave too much leeway that you start to get lazy.
Set Both Short And Long Term Goals
Another big mistake you don’t want to make is setting just that long term goal.
While it’s great that you have that end goal in mind, if it’s too far off in the distance (6-12 months away), this is simply not going to keep you motivated.
You need something to strive to work that will come sooner than that. So, set some short term goals as well.
These should be goals that take place once every 1-2 weeks and should be relatively easy to reach if you put in some effort.
Not only will these goals break down that larger goal, but they’ll also help you stay focused the entire time.
Plus, with each goal that you reach and achieve, you’ll feel that much more motivated to carry on.
You might even choose to set some smaller rewards for each short term goal that you reach as positive reinforcement.
Create An Action Plan
It’s also a good idea to create an action plan for yourself as well. What will you do to reach your goal?
It’s great to write it down, but as you do so, remember that you must also come up with a strategy to get from point A to point B.
You wouldn’t head out on a road trip without knowing the roads to take to get there, right? Don’t approach your goals in that manner.
Get An Accountability Partner
Finally, consider getting yourself an accountability partner. This is something that you tell your goals to who can help you stay consistent.
They should be checking in on you from time to time, seeing how you’re doing.
If things aren’t going quite as planned, you should be able to talk to them about it, explaining your issues and have them give you back some advice and feedback.
Ideally this partner is involved in health and fitness themselves as well, but even if they aren’t, if they’re just someone who you really trust, that will get the job done.
So there you have some of the key tips to remember as you set your goals. Also remember that your goals are never set in stone, so don’t feel like you can’t ever change them.
Get into the habit of re-evaluating them regularly, making changes as necessary to keep them as relevant to you as possible.
